gloHELP also attended a workshop on Sustainable Development Goals at the University of Ibadan on 31st August 2016. The workshop was powered by the Southwest Civil Society on Sustainable Development Goals to accustom Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on SDGs with the Challenges that made Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) unachievable and most importantly the imperativeness of Sustainable Development Goals on how the organization can key into it and ensure it is achieved.
SDG has 17 Goals which is grouped into three dimensions of Social, Economic and Environment. For example: Goals 1,2,3,4,5,10,16 fall under Social, while Goals 7,8,9,11,12, 17 fall under Economic and Goals 6,12,13,14,15 fall under Environment.
The following are the duties of Civil Society Organizations for SDG Implementation:
· Monitoring and Evaluation of SDG implementation;
· Influencing Government Policy;
· Mobilization and Empowering people to speak out;
· Holding Government responsible to the citizens;
· CSOs are to raise the profile of SDGs and
· Ensure Accountability.
The NNNGO Coordinator (Mr. Oyebisi) enjoined Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to identify a Focal goal, Understand the target of the goal, Link it with their Organization’s Vision, Mission and Develop a Strategy and Workplan to achieve it.
